HK seeks better trade, energy ties with Sultanate

HONG KONG is keen to boost trade ties with Brunei, particularly in the energy sector, Hong Kong Financial Secretary John Tsang yesterday said.

Trade volume between the two stood at HK$110 million ($19.8 million) as of 2009.

"The trade volume is not high at this point so there is a lot more from Hong Kong to Brunei than the other way round, but we are going to see how we can remedy the situation by bringing about a higher level of trade between the two countries," said Tsang. He said he sees a lot of potential particularly in the energy sector. "We have a very powerful matching programme from the trade and promotion arm in Hong Kong ... and we can match importers from both places to the goods they need for various kinds of services," he said. He added that there will be people who are interested in various kinds of products and services in the energy and resources sector. "The potential is there, we just need to bring the buyers and the sellers from both places together in some way." Debbie Too The Brunei Times
