ONE of Turkey's leading defence manufacturers, FNSS Savunma Sistemleri, is coming to the Second Brunei Darussalam International Defence Exhibition and Conference (BRIDEX 2009) to showcase its expertise and systems.

BRIDEX 2009 is organised by Royal Brunei Technical Services (RBTS) with the full support of the Ministry of Defence.

The event, which is scheduled from August 12 to 15 at the new exhibition and convention centre at Jerudong, is expected to serve as an ideal platform for exhibitors and senior decision makers and officials from the ministries to forge strategic partnerships and build vital alliances, as well as networking, sharing ideas and knowledge, discussing technology advancements and industry developments.

RBTS is a wholly-owned government company that was established in 1988 to support the defence and security needs of Brunei by providing effective solutions and support services to Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Royal Brunei Police Force and other security forces in the country.

FNSS Savunma Sistemleri (FNSS Defence Systems Inc) is an Ankara-Turkey based joint venture company between Nurol Holding of Turkey and BAE Systems Land and Armaments.

The company is involved in the design and production of tracked armoured combat vehicles, wheeled armoured vehicles and weapon stations as well as modernisation and maintenance works on ageing armoured vehicles.

The company supplies a range of tracked Armoured Combat Vehicles (ACV).

The ACV is a combat proven medium weight, low-silhouette armoured vehicle capable of high mobility in all kinds of terrain and amphibious operations on rivers and lakes.

The ACV is designed with the necessary mounting provisions to transform the vehicle into various vehicle configurations that will meet the user's operational requirements.

The Advanced Armoured Personnel Carrier (AAPC) chassis forms the base vehicle for all other members of the family of vehicles.

The ACV is based on the M113 series of armoured personnel carriers built by United Defense of the United States.

The vehicle is in service with Turkey and has obtained export orders from Jordan, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates. (ALA)
