VN unis to offer job training

VOCATIONAL training programmes will be included in the curricula at both universities and colleges by 2010, Vietnam's Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) has announced.

MoLISA Deputy Minister Tran Huu Dac explained that the decision to include vocational training at university level and not just at the college level was made because of the need for more practical, problem-solving education.

Many students were choosing to attend university rather than college because of the prestige of a university-level degree, he added.

The deputy head of the General Department of Vocational Training, Duong Duc Lan, said the new programme would improve the quality of job training and help overseas guest workers meet global and regional training standards.

MoLISA is drafting a detailed plan based on a model from Australia that calls for a seven-semester programme over a 21-month period. Students would spend 70 per cent of their time performing practical activities. VNS
