Sabah agriculture reaps RM10 billion
Friday, July 27, 2007
THE agricultural sector has emerged as a key driver of the Sabah economy, contributing RM10 billion or 37 per cent of the state's total exports last year, Chief Minister Musa Aman said yesterday.
He attributed the success of the sector to the efficient leadership and hard work of the officers and staff of the State Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry.
Musa said this in his speech at the state-level Farmers, Livestock Breeders and Fishermen's Day here. The text of his speech was read out by Deputy Chief Minister Yahya Hussin.
Musa said the ministry had also successfully encouraged farmers, livestock breeders and fishermen to work hard to reap bigger profits.
Sabah is most fortunate to have been endowed with an abundance of natural resources such as arable land and a conducive climate for year-round cultivation of crops, he said.
