Empire Hotel seeing significant occupancy rise

Thursday, August 30, 2007

THE Empire Hotel & Country Club's occupancy rate has significantly increased due to the annual Brunei Golf Open and the marketing campaign by Brunei Tourism.

The 20-per cent upsurge in occupancy rate from the same period last year is not just because of the tee-off of the annual Brunei Open today, said the hotel's general manager, Manfred Keiler.

It is also in large part due to the efforts of Brunei Tourism, which has not ceased in its campaign to lure more visitors to the sultanate over the past months, Keiler said in an interview with The Brunei Times.

"The Brunei Open is indeed a key event and serves as a catalyst not only to golfers but families and people seeking new destinations. Our occupancies clearly show growth and indeed the Green Heart of Borneo and effective promotions by Brunei Tourism are helping," Keiler told.

By maintaining its first-class facilities, The Empire Hotel is able to attract a healthy number of guests from the leisure market, he said.

More specifically, the five-star hotel has seen a rising number of guests from neighbouring Kota Kinabalu.

"We hope soon to have an added flight from Kota Kinabalu to further grow our occupancies as tourists travelling to Kota Kinabalu can hop over to Brunei to play a round of golf at our great golf courses."

Other trends observed by the newly appointed hotel general manager aside from the growth in the hotel's occupancy is a demand for larger meeting space.

The Brunei Golf Open attracts professional golf players from around the region to compete at The Empire Hotel's immaculate Nicklaus-designed golf course.

Held annually, the event also entices golf enthusiasts from other parts of the globe to visit Brunei Darussalam.
