Petrol hub in Johor

Friday, July 6, 2007

MALAYSIA'S Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi yesterday launched the construction of a US$406 million regional petroleum hub to be built on a man-made island off southern Johor state.

The Asia Petroleum Hub (APH ) to be completed in 2009 will provide bunkering or storage facilities with a total capacity of one million cubic metres.

Abdullah said the project, located at a 40 hectare island west of Johor Bahru city, will complement of Johor Ports at Pasir Gudang and Port of Tanjong Pelepas, he said. It is designed to handle over 30 million metric tonnes of petroleum products as well as accommodate 3,000 vessels calling at the terminal annually.

APH is being developed by a consortium led by KIC Oil Gas, Malaysia's largest private terminal operator and bunker player.

Abdullah expects APH to provide synergies to the Iskandar Development Region (IDR) in Johor. AFP
