Monday, July 16, 2007
BUSINESS networking in Brunei Darussalam will now be a breeze with the the launch of the GoldPages, a business directory that gives information on more than 4,000 local companies.
Kenny Wong, the chief operation officer of MediaPro which publishes the directory, said the directory is the first of its kind in the sultanate and the region.
He said the directory is aimed to help local businesses.
Apart from providing contacts and information on local companies, the directory also provides guidance in the registration of business and companies, said Wong after the soft launch of the GoldPages at The Mall in Gadong yesterday.
"The product is a joint venture between MediaPro, DST Sdn Bhd and OneBrunei.com. It took us one year to compile the information for the directory," he said.
He said the company hopes to expand its current services with online and mobile services which will be launched in August.
"The online reference guide works similar to Internet search engines like Yahoo and Google. The consumers need only to visit our website (www.goldpages.com.bn) and search for the relevant types of business they are looking for," he said.
He said the online service will also help to promote companies' websites.
Included in GoldPages is a website directory, which contains only domain name information of businesses.
"A lot of companies have their own websites, but they lay almost idle because people don't know about it, so we are aiming to promote these websites," said Wong
As for the mobile directory service, consumers can download information on companies registered under GoldPages on to their mobile phones. "There are many advantages to this service, if your car suddenly breaks down, you will have instant access to numbers of different car repair shops," said Wong, whose company also published Brunei's Buyers Guide.
A total of 100,000 copies will be printed annually and the public can obtain it "through DST outlets when you pay your bills, you will get a copy."
MediaPro's Editorial Director Cheeah Swee Ming said the 100,000 copies will be given free to the public at DST Group retail counters: Kristal Astro and Integrated Communication.
Adna Rahman, the owner of Natural Resource, a local skincare company, welcomed GoldPage's efforts. He said advertising is definitely important for companies to improve sales.
Asked if he would advertise in the newly launched directory, he said: "If it reaches the right number of people and the price is right, I will consider it." The Brunei Times
