HM sends condolences to Indonesia's prexy

Friday, March 9, 2007

HIS MAJESTY Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to send his condolences to His Excellency Dr Hj Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of the Republic of Indonesia following the recent air disaster in Yogyakarta.

In the message, His Majesty expressed his great sadness upon learning about the losses of family ties and lives caused by the disaster.

On behalf of Brunei, His Majesty sent his thoughts and sympathies to all those affected by the disaster.

The concerns of this nation towards the affairs in Indonesia indicate the strengthening bilateral relations between these two countries since their establishment of diplomatic relations in 1984, which also emanate from centuries of shared history.

On Wednesday, Garuda Airlines Boeing 737-400 Flight GA 200 carrying 133 passengers with two Bruneians onboard crashed in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Twenty-one perished in the disaster, while 97 survived including two Bruneian officials from the Ministry of Finance who were scheduled to attend a meeting of the Working Committee on Asean Capital Accounts Liberalisation. The 15-year-old plane's fuselage burst into flames as it landed in Yogyakarta.

According to previous reports the officials from MOF, the two Bruneians are under the medical care in a hospital in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

The plane crash is the third for Indonesia's aviation industry for this year.
