Muslims urged to emulate the Prophet
Saturday, March 31, 2007
IMAMS nationwide in their Friday sermons yesterday have called for the Muslim Ummah in Brunei to emulate Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and follow his teachings and conduct.
Prophet Muhammad is a good role model, a great example to the Muslim Ummah to follow in his teachings and noble conduct how he led his life, mingled with people, spoke, ate and others, said the Imams.
The Imams quoted a verse in the Surah Al-Ahzab in the Qur'an which says "Indeed in the Messenger of Alla{aci}h (Muhammad) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in (the Meeting with) Alla{aci}h and the Last Day and remembers Alla{aci}h much."
"The nobility of the people who emulate Prophet Muhammad and follow his footsteps is clear to us," the Imams said.
"However, it is unfortunate that there are still some among the Muslim Ummah at the moment who have made singers or artistes their role models by imitating their style of dressing and other mannerisms."
In light of the month when Prophet Muhammad was born, the Imams spoke of the divine rewards given to those who pray for him when they say Shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam (may peace and blessings be upon him).
"To prove our love for the Prophet, we have to accomplish and perform his teachings while remembering and increasing our prayers for him. Increasing our prayers for him will also bring us get nearer to Allah (SWT) as well as to make hardship and sadness disappear, expand our livelihood, and all our needs that, God willing, will be granted."
All the rewards can be accomplished, said the Imams, provided that one is steadfast ('istiqamah) in his belief.
"However, do not assume that only by increasing our prayers for Prophet Muhammad we will be rewarded. There are other practices that are also very important, such as praying, fasting, doing charitable acts and others that should not be abandoned."
"Eleven nights ago, all mosques and suraus nationwide held dikir ceremonies to commemorate the Prophet's birthday. While this is good, it is hoped that we don't only remember and pray for him during this month. We have to frequently practice and increase our prayers for him, through dikir, and other daily practices."
Meanwhile, the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) held a ceremony yesterday evening to mark the end of the dikir to commemorate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad at the Surau Bolkiah Garrison.
The guest of honour was Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi Haji Md Yussof, Commander of RBAF. The ceremony began with a recital of Quranic verses followed by the mass Maghrib prayers.
Ustaz Semalli Adam from the Co-curriculum Department at the Education Ministry, delivered a talk in conjunction with the Maulud ceremony followed by the mass Isyak prayers. The Dikir Syarafil Anam ended with thanksgiving doa to commemorate the Prophet's birthday celebrations. The event was attended by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Support Service Commandant, Military and Civilian Directors and members of the Ministry of Defence and RBAF.
