MADAM Yang Yanyi, Chinese Ambassador to Brunei, yesterday paid a farewell call on businessman Pehin Kapitan China Kornia Diraja Dato Paduka Lau Ah Kok at his residence in Kampong Manggis.

The Chinese ambassador, who has been posted in Brunei for the past two years, will be leaving next month.

In the afternoon she paid a similar farewell call on Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Awang Goh King Chin at the Goh Hock Kee Motors Sdn Bhd.

"I would like to personally thank the embassy of China as it has done a very good job in maintaining good ties between Brunei and China including establishing good business relationship with the Chinese motor industry," said Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Awang Goh King Chin referring the ZX Auto Landmark launch at GHK.

The two countries have been cooperating in areas such as energy, trade, investment, tourism and education.

Earlier this month, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, attended the 10th Asean and China Summit where various agreements were signed, including the Trade in Services Agreement of the Asean-China Free Trade Area, Plan of Action to Implement the Beijing Declaration on Asean-ICT Cooperative Partnership for Common Development and the Memorandum of Understanding on Agriculture Cooperation.

Future projects for strengthening the two countries are Asean-China Young Entrepreneurs and an Asean-China Young Civil Servants Exchange Programme.

Through the signing of Asean-China Free Trade Area it was hoped that it would promote greater investment flows from both sides.
