S'pore minister arrives in Brunei for two-day visit

RAYMOND Lim Siang Keat, Transport Minister and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore and his delegation arrived in the country yesterday afternoon for a two-day introductory visit.
He was welcomed at the Brunei International Airport in Berakas by Dato Paduka Hj Shofry Hj Abdul Ghafor, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Today, the Singapore Minister will be received in audience by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, according to an official at the Singapore embassy in the sultanate.
The Republic of Singapore's Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs will also pay a courtesy call on the Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister's Office, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Hj Awg Yahya Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar.
Meanwhile, last night the visiting Singapore minister attended a dinner hosted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng. Also present at the function were Minister of Communications Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Hj Awg Abu Bakar Hj Apong, Minister of Health Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman and the Minister of Development Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Abdullah Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar.
Born in 1959, the Singapore's Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs was elected as a member of Singapore Parliament in 2001. He was later appointed as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for Trade & Industry and in 2003 and further given additional responsibility of being Minister of State in charge of entrepreneurship.
In 2005, the minister was appointed as the Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; Second Minister for Finance and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs. He was appointed Transport Minister in 2006, while at the same holding the post as the Second Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Brunei Darussalam has previously received visits from other ministers of the republic. In January this year, Minister of Foreign Affairs George Yeo Yong Boon, visited the country where in an interview with The Brunei Times, the minister expressed that Brunei and Singapore are working towards being an integrated region, one that lives in harmony and maximising opportunities for growth and development. This was followed with a visit by the Minister of Education and Second Finance Minister, Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
