Brunei attends BIMP-Eaga meet

THE Government of Brunei Darussalam chaired the Fourth Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asian Growth Area (BIMP-Eaga) Transport/Infrastructure and ICT Development Cluster Meeting in Puerto Princesa City, Philippines last Tuesday.
Headed by the director of Transportation from the Ministry of Communication, Ang Kian Guan, the meeting with four governments of BIMP-Eaga was geared towards enhancing connectivity in transport, infrastructure and ICT development in the region.
The meeting reviewed the outcomes of recently held BIMP-Eaga meetings and finalised agreements and the delivery of sub-regional cooperation under the BIMP-Eaga mechanism.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the preparations for the forthcoming Second Transport Ministers meeting to be held in Davao City, Philippines, as well as the Third BIMP-Eaga Darwin Dialogue in Northern Territory, Australia. More than 100 delegates from transport, infrastructure, ICT focused agencies of the four countries took part in the meeting.
As previously reported by The Brunei Times, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended the Third BIMP-Eaga Summit in Cebu, Philippines.
During the summit, His Majesty stressed the importance of cooperation with development partners in the bringing in of capital and technology specific to BIMP-Eaga.
His Majesty also stressed the need to quickly develop concrete joint programmes with clear targets that would accelerate the growth and development of the sub-region.
His Majesty added that the success in BIMP-Eaga's cooperation depends on the involvement of people at all levels which include businessmen and women to bring a sense of togetherness and commitment to development and prosperity of the sub-region.
A four-country grouping, BIMP-Eaga was established in 1994, to collectively pursue sub-regional economic growth through enhancement of trade, tourism and investment among member-countries.
With approximately 50 million people spread out across land mass of 1.5 million square kilometres, it is the largest sub-regional cooperation in the whole of Asia with a large market potential.
