The minister arrived home yesterday at the end of the Ministerial Meeting.
The minister said the theme of this year's meeting was "Youth: Creating Our Future Together" which coincides with the 40th anniversary of Asean. The theme focused on encouraging youth to recognise the potential and talent they have within themselves.
The four-day meeting saw youth participation in discussions that relate to youth's concerns.
He added that the participation of the Youth Caucus at AMMY V was well received and represented Asean's commitment to providing opportunities to the youth to contribute to the future of Asean as well as the peace, harmony and environment of the region.
The meeting set a new precedent in the region's history when Asean youth representatives discussed issues at a higher level in Asean.
The Caucus enabled the youth to voice out specific issues concerning 'Education, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Environment and Community Involvement'.
According to information released by the ministry, they have shown leadership potential and presented several proposals to handle the aforementioned issues.
In the meeting, youth ministers emphasised their commitment to youth and agreed to increase more youth participation at future Asean Ministerial Meeting for Youth to get their perspectives in order to pass relevant legislations.
In addition, more youth involvement upholds Asean vision to further enhance their ability, potential and talent. With providing them a platform to voice out, these youth will be able to contribute more to the future of Asean, according to the outcome of the meeting.
It is significant to provide Asean youth with "opportunities, resources and support" in order to foster an educated, confident and capable future generation that will be ready to seize the opportunities and tackle challenges brought about by globalisation.
The sixth ministerial meeting will be held in Thailand on March 2009.
