Baiduri Bank, Western Union join hands for noble cause

Saturday, May 5, 2007

A TOTAL of 10 education grants, each worth $500, from Baiduri Bank and Western Union will be given away to migrant workers with school-going children at home.

"Financial assistance is often required for many migrant workers who have children that might not be able to attend school or pursue higher education. Education grants figure prominently for migrant children to achieve high academic standards," said Cedric Dias, Western Union country manager, Singapore and Brunei. He emphasised the importance of ensuring that children of migrant workers "have access to and benefit from the same public education, including public preschool education, provided to other children".

To qualify, migrant workers are required to show their Western Union Gold Card, fill up an entry form and submit at Western Union agent locations in Singapore. Application is open from May 7 to June 7.

A panel of judges from Baiduri Bank will interview short-listed candidates and the 10 final recipients will be determined based on criteria such as family income, number of children in their home country and expenses incurred for education each month. They will receive the grant on July 2. Baiduri Bank, established in 1994, is a member company of Baiduri Bank Group, one of the largest providers of financial products and services in Brunei. The Western Union Company is a leader in global money transfer services.
