SOME of the leading US defence contractors are expected to make a presence in the upcoming Brunei International Defence exhibition and Forum (Bridex 2007) scheduled for May 31 along with 10 other companies from the country.
Amongst them are Harris Corporation, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon International Inc Asean.
Harris Corporation, which is the leader in communication and radio technology, is serving government and commercial markets in more than 150 countries and has an annual revenue of about US$4 billion. Northrop Grumman, another leading US defence company, is best known for its cutting edge technology in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.
Raytheon leads the technology for command and control in air defence.
In an exclusive interview, the Ambassador of the United States of America, His Excellency Emil M Skodon, told The Brunei Times that all the US companies scheduled to take part in the exhibition are in the midst of preparations. All of them are very much excited to experience the very first Brunei Defense Exhibition.
"We are extremely delighted to see almost a dozen American companies come. Some of them are the most technologically advanced, some of the largest defence contractors we have got in America, some of them are really big players in the industry," Ambassador Skodon stressed.
According to the ambassador, even though Brunei and the US already have continuous cooperation in the relevant area, Bridex 2007 will certainly be another great step ahead towards enhancing such partnership.
His Excellency also expressed his satisfaction towards the exhibition organised by the Ministry of Defence.
He said he is interested in the topics that the organisers are focusing on, such as Homeland Security, C4ISR and UAV. "They are all very technical niches, they all are owned by cutting edge technologies of today's world, so that gives me the impression that Bruneian decision makers are really keeping themselves up with the latest developments of the field which is a great thing for a country."
Dubbed as the exhibition of the year, nearly a hundred companies from across the globe are expected to take part in the first ever Brunei Defence Exhibition from May 31 till June 2 at the Brunei International Convention Centre in Berakas.
