Crown Prince visits nine industrial plants

HIS Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office held a working visit to various project sites under the MIPR yesterday.
The Crown Prince's first stop was Jati Freedom Textile company in Serasa, Muara.
His Royal Highness was taken on a tour round the garment factory plant where he observed cutting, sewing and packaging line, and was briefed on the production process, its raw material imports and the machinery used.
The company produces more than one million pieces every month, of which 90 per cent is exported to the US and the rest to other markets such as Europe, Japan and Mexico.
One in every 10 of the company's staff are Bruneians who hold positions in administration, human resources, packing and embroidery.
Next stop was Oriente Company, which deals in granite processing and building materials products. The Crown Prince was able to view an exhibition of various products produced by the company, and was also given a synopsis of the company's development and successes.
The third industrial area visited by His Royal Highness was Goh Hock Kee (GHK) Auto Assembly Company where he observed the installation of accessories on vehicles before these are distributed in the local market. Materials used are from Asian countries such as Singapore and Malaysia.
During the visit, Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Awang Goh King Chin presented to Dato Paduka Awang Rahman Mohiddin, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, a mini bus key. The mini bus is a donation of GHK company to the Kampong Lambak Mosque of Mukim Berakas 'A'.
The Crown Prince then visited Timbertech in the Salar Industrial Site in Muara where he consented to receive a donation of $10,000 for the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Orphans Foundation.
His Royal Highness first stop at the Lambak Kanan Industrial Area was Syarikat Pengangkutan Awang Damit dan Anak-Anak, which offers transportation services and has been in operation since 1987.
With a fleet of 46, the firm extends its services to holiday travel packages to neighbouring countries, Sabah and Sarawak. The company also offers bus rental services.
The Crown Prince then proceeded to Asia Printers Sdn Bhd, a printing company that also supplies stationery products.
Since beginning its operation in March 2003, Asia Printers has frequently handled the government's printing materials. The company has 21 workers, of which 10 are foreigners.
After a tour of the grounds, the heir to the throne consented to receive a donation of $3,000 from the company, which was duly handed over to Dato Paduka Haji Ali Hashim bin Haji Daud, Chief Executive Officer of the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Orphans Foundation.
Following this, His Majesty continued to Seri Pekatan Sdn Bhd, a producer of foodstuffs such as fish, cuttlefish and prawn crackers. His Majesty explored the Seri Pekatan factory before departing to Syarikat Malar Setia Sdn Bhd.
Active since January 1998, Syarikat Malar Setia is a supplier of food products and canned drinks and currently holds mostly local staff.
After touring the grounds of Syarikat Malar Setia, a mock cheque of $10,000 was handed to Dato Paduka Haji Ali Hashim bin Haji Daud towards the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Orphans Foundation.
The Crown Prince then proceeded to the last working visit of the day, Mahkota Crystal Sdn Bhd.
In operation since September 2001, Mahkota Crystal is a semi-government company that manufactures high-value crystal products as well as souvenirs and handicrafts. It currently has 12 staff, mostly local.
After a tour of the production area, His Royal Highness proceeded to leave for the Kampong Sungai Hanching Mosque, where he performed the Zohor prayer before having lunch at a restaurant in Kampong Manggis with senior officers and staff of the MIPR and its departments, and a number of local industrialists.
The working visit is a follow-up to His Majesty's working visit to departments under MIPR. Its main objective is to projects and economic activities by the institutions and companies in the sites visited, which are aimed at achieving MIPR's goals of diversifying the nation's economy.
These economic activities provide opportunities to SMEs and increase competitiveness in the international level as well as bring in foreign direct investment.The Brunei Times
