Progress of Bridex 2007 on track

AS THE country awaits for the upcoming Royal Brunei Armed Forces 46th Anniversary and the Brunei Darussalam International Defence Exhibition and global Forum 2007, preparations and rehearsals are ongoing at the International Convention Centre as the launch dates get nearer.

The Brunei Times spoke to Dato Paduka Hj Mustappa Hj Sirat, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence yesterday at the International Convention Centre, as authorised personnel were busy setting up exhibitor booths.

Dato Paduka Hj Mustappa Hj Sirat said that exibitors have already come in with their products that will be displayed at the exhibition, and there have been new additions.

"We are almost there. I am pleased with the preparations for Bridex, it is going extremely well. Everything should be ready before the 31st," he said on the current status of Bridex, and was pleased at the progress that has been made.

The Permanent Secretary went on to say that a lot of interest has been shown from the business community, both locals and visitors. The forum that will be available during Bridex will explore various forms of Private-Public partnerships, as well as experience-sharing between the participants."

"The public can expect to see the latest technological advancements in military equipments and inventions, which really, is a first for Brunei."

Dubbed as the exhibition of the year, will see a total of 108 companies both local and foreign companies taking part in the first ever Brunei Defence Exhibition from May 31 till June 2 at the 20 hectare Brunei International Convention Centre.

Brunei Darussalam allocates an annual defence budget of $500 million dollars for maintainence and acquisition that through the upcoming exhibition two days away, it is a platform to initiate and develop a local defence industry in Brunei Darussalam.
