Trip to ethnic villages and more

SOME 32 students and five teachers from Singapore's Qihua Primary School will be joining their Bruneian counterparts in learning and gaining experiencing educational and cultural activities during their five-day study visit to the country.
The school exchange programme will see the Singapore government primary school students interacting with students of Sengkurong Primary School, the organiser of the field trips and activities to Brunei's famous landmarks, including the Jame Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, Kampong Ayer and the tamu, or the dry market, at Gadong.
The primary four to six students will attend classes on kite and basket making, and experience the cultural lifestyles of different ethnic communities, including the Kedayans and other indigenous groups in Brunei.
The entourage, who arrived in Brunei yesterday, are also expected to visit the first Brunei International Defence Exhibition held to mark the 46th anniversary of Royal Brunei Armed Forces on May 31.
Mrs Karthi, a Maths, Science and English teacher of Qihua Primary School told The Brunei Times that the exchange programme is aimed at giving students the opportunity to learn from other countries and share their experiences with other fellow students in Singapore.
Qihua Primary School is one of Singapore's oldest primary schools that started in the 1930s. It has a student population of more than 2,000.
The school focuses on the character development of students through a framework of social emotional learning, values inculcation programme and community involvement programme.
