Thursday, May 31, 2007

OFFICIALS and staff of the Public Works Department have been urged to continue their efforts to enhance the quality of service and be more customer orientated.

In his speech at the official launch of the public works department's customer day, the department's acting director, Hj Mohd Zin Hj Salleh said that in order for the department to realise this goal, which go hand in hand with the national development, a human resource pool brimming with quality and professionalism in their respective fields would be needed. In particular one with values and work ethic of high integrity aimed at providing excellence.

"This has been due to the rising expectations for the department to operate in a more timely and efficient manner, achieving levels of productivity with optimum man power that will not hamper the service and facilities provided," he said.

With a workforce that exceeds 4,000 people in seven functional departments, the public works department boasts 200 senior officers and managers, with 80 of them recognised as having attained status 'Professional Competence' and/or achieving 'Chartered Professional Status' from a host of established international professional institutions.

Hj Mohd Zin believes that the department have done well in enhancing their human resources to contend with the stiff expectations that they have been tasked with, and called for all personnel nationwide to continue their efforts to provide a high quality service and more customer orientated.
