Off to Korea for Fobissea Games

Tuesday, June 5, 2007

SOME 36 students from the International School Brunei (ISB) will be taking part in this year's Federation of British International Schools of South East Asia (Fobissea) Games in Korea.

The three-day event will be hosted by the Seoul Foreign School and runs from June 7 till June 9.

Students will compete in different sporting events such as athletics, swimming, football, and t-ball.

The 36 students aged between nine to 11 have been training since January and have to compete in all four events.

ISB's Primary section Principal, Shane Nathan commented that, "The students have prepared as best they can. Now it's down to the actual events. We are hopeful that the students can beat last year's record medal haul of over 100 medals."

Parents and teachers saw their children off at the Brunei International Airport at around noon yesterday wishing them luck.

Fobissea consists of nearly 30 prestigious British-style international schools in 11 countries across the region delivering education to over 21,000 students.

Their aim is to promote excellence, high achievement and good practice amongst the member schools.

Each year Fobissea organises a wide range of events and meetings for students and teachers, hosted by various schools.

As well as the sporting competitions for various student age groups, known as "the Games", they also organise an annual Music Festival.

A non-profit organisation, Fobissea provides a network for staff, students and parents to meet, exchange ideas and experiences in an informal yet competitive spirit of sporting challenges.
