HM meets M'sia, Singapore leaders

HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday received in separate audiences two dignitaries from neighbouring Singapore and Malaysia.

Senior Minister of the Republic of Singapore, His Excellency Goh Chok Tong was received in audience at the Istana Nurul Iman.

His Excellency was in the country to attend the royal wedding ceremony between Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bulqiah and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Khairul Khalil, which took place on Sunday.



In an interview with The Brunei Times after the audience, the Singapore Senior Minister expressed his appreciation for His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's invitation to attend the wedding of His Majesty's daughter.

"(The invitation) reflects the close relations between our two countries, and also the personal relations between His Majesty and Singapore civilians ... I'm happy to be here to represent Singapore," he said, adding that the two leaders discussed, among other things, developments in the region.

Also received in audience by His Majesty was the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Accompanied by his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, he also attended the royal wedding ceremony and banquet.

Meanwhile, Senior Minister Goh was also granted an audience with His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office. In the audience, the Singaporean dignitary extended an invitation to the Crown Prince to visit Singapore.

"(The Crown Prince) has been to Singapore to look at our defence ministry, and also to study our Home Affairs work, and I welcome him to visit Singapore anytime he wants and to visit any ministry he likes," said Senior Minister Goh.

The audience took place at the Istana Nurul Iman.
