Wednesday, June 13, 2007

TWO locals were sentenced to prison yesterday for a house break-in and theft.

According to a police statement, 23-year-old Mohd Noh Mohd Ezam and 26-year-old Mohd Hamni Mohd Edham were sentenced to 98 months and 42 months in jail respectively. Investigations revealed that the duo had been involved in 13 cases of house break-ins and thefts in Belait district, four in Tutong and three in Brunei-Muara.

Stolen items were estimated to be valued at $250,000.

Meanwhile, an Indonesian national was found guilty by the Magistrate Court in the capital for bribing officials at the Kuala Lurah Control Post. The Anti-Corruption Bureau stated that Sunardi Tukinem was found guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act, two days after he made the bribe as an inducement for the officials not to take action against him after violating an immigration act. He is currently in remand pending sentencing on June 18.
