Thursday, June 28, 2007
SOME 74 teachers from primary and secondary schools and Universiti Brunei Darussalam, and staff of the Co-curriculum Education Department attended the Applied Sports Science Seminar.
The focus of the seminar held at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium was on how to teach students to maximise their sport potential in a way similar to national athletes, but at a reasonably lower level.
"(The participants) were selected to attend a number of presentations in pursuit of excellence in physical education," said event chairman Mohd Abdoh Hj Damit, also the acting supervisor for extracurricular activities.
Deputy Director of Youth and Sports Pg Sabri Pg Hj Mohammad from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports launched the seminar. He said that he hoped the seminar would enable the participants to realise the importance of sports science and apply the various principles of sport.
"A phenomena in this decade, the knowledge of Sports Science has helped to break many records," the deputy director said.
"The seminar also helps participants answer questions like 'What sport is best for me?' and 'How important is my height and weight?', apart from finding out the latest information on sports science," he added.
He promised that the ministry would be supporting the cause in terms of manpower, knowledge and skill.
