Agong visits Islamic Exhibition

THE 13th Agong of Malaysia His Majesty Sultan Al-Wathiqu Billah Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah and Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Sultanah Nur Zahirah visited the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Islamic Exhibition Gallery at Darul 'ifta Brunei Darussalam yesterday.
On arrival, Yang Di-Pertuan Agong was greeted by the State Mufti, Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Abdul Aziz. Also present were Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz.
In a briefing by State Mufti's Office, Director of Administration Dato Paduka Ahmad Bukhari PSRK Hj Abu Hanifah said the establishment of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Islamic Exhibition Gallery was part of efforts of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to preserve Islamic treasures in the form of manuscripts and artifacts.Research has been done on a small number of manuscripts from the total of 1,000 artifacts.
It is His Majesty's vision to make the exhibition an Islamic knowledge heritage centre by continuing research and spread its finding to the Islamic world, Muslims and mankind, he said.
The director said His Majesty has set an example by inviting Muslims to join the efforts in preserving Islamic treasures like manuscripts and artifacts.
The Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Islamic Exhibition Gallery was launched by His Majesty on August 18, 2001 in conjunction with the International Islamic Expo. With four exhibition galleries under the Brunei Islamic Library, the Exhibition Gallery displays His Majesty's collection of handwritten Mushaf and His Majesty's personal collection of more 200 walking sticks and 60 prayers beads which date from the early 16th century to the 20th century.
