PARTICIPANTS of the ceremonial parade on the occasion of His Majesty's 61st birthday yesterday were glad and proud to involve in celebrating the ruler's birthday this year.
Some 11 uniformed public organisations and departments took part in the grand event.
Muhammad Zulhelmi, 15, who had only just joined the Brunei National Scout Association this year, told The Brunei Times that though he was a bit tired for he had to wake up at 5am, he was excited too because he said, "We are celebrating His Majesty's birthday."
For 14-year-old police cadet Nurul Nazihah, the experience was fun even though she was a reserve for the second year in a row.
"I do want to join but I am afraid I might faint," said petite Nazihah, adding that they were constantly on stand-by just in case they were needed to replace someone on the field.
Royal Brunei Police cadet Mohd Radzi, 17, who has had three years of experience, commented that it was different each year.
"We learn how it feels like to stand out there and try to improve our performance the next year," he said.
'This is the first time that we are participating in His Majesty's birthday because last year, the association was not even formed yet," said one of the cadet supervisors, Sylvia, a teacher from Saiyyidina Hassan Secondary School.
To date there are 38 student cadets and 14 teacher cadets but only 30 were allowed to represent the association at the parade.
She said that although the event was quite exhausting, it felt good to lead the cadets.
