Two more Lebanese troops die

TWO more Lebanese soldiers were killed in intense fighting yesterday as troops pressed their offensive against diehard Islamic extremists in north Lebanon for the fifth week.
The soldiers were killed in Nahr al-Bared refugee camp where the army has besieged al-Qaeda-inspired Fatah al-Islam fighters in a battle that has now left 140 dead, including 73 soldiers, since it erupted on May 20.
"Two soldiers were killed in fighting this morning," a military spokesman told AFP, vowing that "the army will continue to fight until it extends its total control over all the positions occupied by the gunmen".Early yesterday, tanks and artillery pounded the northern seashore sector of the Palestinian camp north of the port city of Tripoli where Fatah al-Islam militiamen are believed to be dug in.
Clouds of white dust plumed above battered buildings from which flickering orange muzzle flashes of militant fire could be seen targeting the soldiers besieging the camp.AFP
