Next: Road safety campaign
Saturday, May 5, 2007
I WOULD like to applaud the authorities in Brunei Darussalam for initiating a Road Safety Awareness Exhibition at the International Convention Centre in Berakas last week.
However, this should be just the start of making the roads in Brunei safer.
What is needed now is a follow-up advertising campaign on the television, radio, newspapers, etc.
This should also be backed up by serious random police road checks and drivers cautioned or fined for not obeying the traffic laws.
There are still far too many drivers out there who are not wearing their seatbelts, children jumping around in the front and backs of cars and even sitting on the driver's lap.
You can very often see drivers talking on their mobiles, unecessary lane-hopping, traffic light jumping and the list goes on.
If the authorities are really serious about road safety then they need to get tough with those dangerous road users who flaunt the regulations without any consequences.
Please make the roads safe for everyone.
