2,000 delegates expected to join Education Ministers conference

Monday, June 8, 2009
MORE than 2,000 delegates are expected take part in the 17th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers (17CCEM), this year celebrating its 50th anniversary, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from June 15-19.

The theme of the event is "Education in the Commonwealth: Towards and Beyond Global Goals and Targets".

Key among the component events is the Stakeholders Forum, on June 14, to allow different stakeholder groups to meet their commonwealth counterparts and to establish recommendations for presentation to ministers.

A statement from the Commonwealth Foundation said they would also make significant recommendations on the future of the Commonwealth education policy consistent with the forum's theme, "Making connections and building partnerships: Towards and beyond global education goals and targets".

The statement said delegates would have the opportunity to debate priorities, address challenges and give new directions to action in education policies.

"The Stakeholders' Forum is uniquely positioned to articulate fresh solutions as it draws participation from the civil society, private sector, academia and other non-state actors," it added.

The forum is organised by the foundation and the Institut Aminuddin Baki which is the National Institute of Educational Management and Leadership of Malaysia.

There will be 72 panelists from across the Commonwealth, sharing their expertise on subjects ranging from quality of education in the current economic climate to making education inclusive, and multi-stakeholder partnerships to finance education.

In 27 workshops covering every technical aspect of education, from pre-school to lifelong learning, the experts will have their say at the forum.
