Civil Service Day to be graced by HM and awards

THE 14th Civil Service Day celebration will take place November 10, 2007 at the International Convention Centre in Berakas and will carry a theme on leadership, it was announced yesterday in a press conference by the Public Service Department.
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will be gracing the occasion that serves to celebrate and provide recognition and appreciation for the countless contributions by civil servants.
This year's Civil Service Day, themed "Upholding Leadership Towards Prosperity", commemorates His Majesty's 40-year reign and the achievements made under His Majesty's wise and visionary leadership.
The theme is also designed to demonstrate how complementary elements of wise leadership and a supportive and capable government are necessary to bring about aspired development.
The press conference was chaired by the acting Director-General of the Public Service Department, Hj Mohammad Taib Datu Hulubalang Hj Abdul Wahab, who is also chairman of the executive committee for the Civil Service Day celebrations.
Also present at the press conference was acting Deputy Director-General of the Public Service Department, Hj Abdul Rahman Hj Muhd Husain, directors and other senior government officers.
After the national event, the Civil Service Day will then be celebrated at the district-level in all four districts, starting with Belait on November 12, followed by Brunei-Muara on November 15, Temburong on November 17 and Tutong on November 19.
Other activities include the Civil Service Day Quiz, Civil Service National Convention and sports competitions in various sports such as golf, futsal, tug-of-war, badminton and ten-pin bowling.
During the Civil Service Day celebrations, two civil service excellence awards, the Counter Award and the Official Website Award, will be given away.
Another highlight will be the Civil Service Exhibition, participated by all ministries and several companies from the private sector.
The three-day exhibition will be held at the International Convention Centre from November 10 to 12.
Civil Service Day was first introduced in 1994 and since then has been celebrated every year on September 29 in commemoration of the signing of the Constitution of Brunei Darussalam in 1959, which is seen as a cornerstone to the development of the constitution.
Among the objectives of Civil Service Day is to acknowledge and appreciate the civil service's roles and responsibilities towards maintaining peace and prosperity of the country and its people.
Civil Service Day is also celebrated to instil excellence within the working culture of the civil service and hoped to raise the level of its staff commitment and dedication by continuously contributing to the increase of quality and productivity in its strive for excellence.
