TAP set on budget planning
Tuesday, November 13, 2007
AHEAD of its end of financial year next March, the Employees Trust Fund or Tabung Amanah Pekerja (TAP) conducted a workshop for its officers and staff yesterday morning at the Ministry of Finance building in Berakas.
The Effective Budgetary Planning and Control workshop, conducted as part of TAP's strategic plan was attended by 22 officers and staff of the retirement-saving institution.
This is the first time TAP has organised the human capacity building activity, which aimed to provide the participants with knowledge and training in the process and procedure of budget planning.
The one-day workshop incorporated four sessions on the preparation and value of budget planning with topics such as how to prepare an effective business plan, importance of responsibility accounting and reporting and using rolling flexible budgets case study.
With cooperation from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Brunei, TAP invited Dr Steven Liew Woon Choy, a chartered accountant of the National University of Singapore, to be the speaker of the workshop.
A member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in the United Kingdom, Dr Steven Liew is a trained consultant and has administered similar workshops in other countries such as Malaysia and Sri Lanka.
As budget forecasting for TAP is conducted in January, the workshop is seen as the opportune time for the officers and staff members to be educated in the ways of budget planning, said Rosli Haji Harun, acting manager of the TAP human resource department.
He further stated that the workshop is hoped to hone and increase the participants' skill and ability in the preparation of budget planning.
As a result of what they have achieved from the workshop, each TAP head of department is required to come up with an effective budget forecasting report for the next financial year.
A certificate of appreciation was handed to each participant at the end of the workshop by Yusof Haji Abdul Rahman, managing director of TAP.
