THE Rhapsody of the Seas, the largest ship to be homeported in Asia, set sail on its maiden voyage last Monday from Singapore.

With an estimated 2,000 passengers from China, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia on board, this 765 international member cruiseship attracted hoards of holiday goers.

It has a variety of restaurants and lounges, over 1,000 rooms, a spa and fitness centre, beauty salon, duty free shopping, two swimming pools, a rock climbing-wall, jogging track, a video game arcade, a medical centre and an Internet centre.

Currently the only travel agency in Brunei that has this cruise package available is Freme Travel Services Sdn Bhd.

James Voon, the Corporate Sales Manager from Freme, said: "The experience of going on a cruise is really something spectacular. Not many people know that the idea of a cruise is that everything can be found under one roof and it is cheaper than flying and paying for hotel rooms and so on."

"Meals are provided and are of five-star quality," said Grace Lai, from the Outbound Tour of Freme Travel Services Sdn Bhd. "Guests don't have to worry about going hungry as there are a variety of restaurants that not only provide round the clock dining, but also snacks."

Rama Rebbapragada, the Asia-Pacific Managing Director for the Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, sees the Rhapsody's maiden sailing in the region as an opportunity to "showcase a unique cruise experience in a region where cruising is set to take off in a significant way".

The two-night, three-day cruise that leaves from Singapore, takes an estimated 12-hour journey to Port Klang in Malaysia, where a number of tour programmes are available to the passengers who wish to see the sights.
