TRANSIT passengers in Brunei will have the opportunity to enjoy a free city tour of the country's famous tourist attractions, one of the ways to encourage travellers to stay longer in Brunei.

This complimentary city transit tour and meal was made possible after yesterday's signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a transit tour programme, Window on Brunei, between Brunei Tourism Board and Royal Brunei Airlines.

The proposed programme is expected to start in January next year.

It will allow passengers who transit in Brunei for more than four hours to enjoy the free city tour to places of interest in Brunei.

They can also opt for a free meal at the Brunei International Airport's Coffee Garden in the departure hall.

The tour includes visits to the historical water village, Kampong Ayer, the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, the Royal Palace or Istana Nurul Iman and Jame' 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque.

There will also be a stop at the Sumbangsih Mulia complex, which showcases local traditional handicrafts.

Transit passengers will also have the choice of Asian or Western food for the breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, as well as a wide-ranging refreshments menu in three different cycles.

Chief Executive Officers for Brunei Tourism Board, Sheikh Jamaluddin Sheikh Mohammad and his counterpart from Royal Brunei Airlines, Ray Sayer, signed the MoU at the Airport Restaurant in Berakas.

"The tours are intended to allow passengers to get a brief glimpse of what Brunei has to offer and entice them to return for a longer stay," said Sheikh Jamaluddin.

Sayer said: "This is an opportunity for RBA to provide a value-added service to enhance the passenger experience during transit."
