Indonesian education delegation on visit to strengthen bilateral ties

VOCATIONAL and technical education and training was high on the agenda yesterday morning as delegates from the Ministry of National Education of Indonesia paid a working visit to the sultanate.

The Indonesian delegation is being led by His Excellency Professor Dr Bambang Sudibyo in his capacity as President of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (Seameo) Council and Mini-ster of National Education in Indonesia.

The five-member delegation consists of senior officials from the Ministry of National Education, Indonesia — Professor Dr Dodi Nandika, Dr Ir Gatot Hari Priowir-janto, Yun Widiati, Dr Joko Pratomo and Muhammad Thohari.

The one-day official visit aimed to take a closer look at the Seameo Regional Centre for Vocational and Technical Education and Training (Seameo-Voctech) and gain more information on the centre's mandate on strengthening and improving the quality of vocational and technical education and training in Southeast Asian countries.

In this regard, the delegates paid a visit to the Science College and were briefed at the Seameo-Voctech in the afternoon.

The visiting delegation also paid a courtesy call on Minister of Education Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Hj Awang Abdul Rahman Dato Setia Hj Mohamed Taib.

During the call on the minister, the delegates discussed bilateral relations and ways of expanding cooperation in the field of vocational and technical education and training.

Also present during yesterday's visit were Deputy Minister of Education Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman, Permanent Secretary Dato Paduka Hj Sheikh Adnan Sheikh Mohamed and Deputy Permanent Secretary Hjh Apsah Hj Abdul Majid.

A tour of the Brunei Arts and Handicraft Training Centre, Royal Regalia and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia concluded their visit.
