RBAF sends 4 to Mindanao peace monitoring team

THE second batch of the Fourth Brunei Darussalam International Monitoring Team (IMT) flew off to Mindanao, the Republic of Philippines early yesterday morning.
They will be joining the six others who have already been in Mindanao since September last year. A ceremony to send them off was held at Hangar B, Royal Brunei Air Force.
The contingent comprises of four army officers, led by Lt Col Pg Hj Tajuddin Pg Hj Karim. The rest are Major Pg Noor Rumaizi Pg Othman, Lt (U) Ak Mohd Yusri Pg Sharifuddin and Sergeant Hj Shaipin Hj Abu Bakar.
Joining parents and other family members to bid farewell to the four was the Royal Brunei Land Forces Commander, Col Pg Dato Paduka Hj Rosli Pg Hj Chuchu.
The contingent's duties is to observe and monitor the implementation of the cessation of hostilities between Manila and the Muslim Separatist group, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) under a ceasefire agreement signed by the two sides in July 2003 led by Malaysia. It will also assist the 60-member team to oversee the implementation of the socio-economic development aspects of the agreement. Brunei has sent personnel to be part of the IMT in Mindanao since October 2004.
