BRUNEI Darussalam continues to celebrate the coming of the new Islamic year of 1429 with a forum held yesterday in Kg Bengkurong to raise awareness of the understanding of the holy al-Quran among youths.

Held at the Kg Bengkurong Mosque, the forum was the first of a series that will see itself conducted in each of the four districts in Brunei. In increasing the awareness and spreading the understanding of the al-Quran to the public, the forum also acts as a platform for the youths involved to share their thoughts and ideas, while practising to speak in public.

Each district will have a group of five making up the panel, selected by the Mosque Affairs Department from all those that applied.

One person on the panel would be an officer from the department who will chair the forum, while another four will be represented by four youths from different mosques in their respective districts.

Each of the four will then be assigned a Mosque Affairs officer to act as a mentor to train them and will be responsible for bringing together the forum's contents.

Yesterday's event was the starting point before continuing to the other districts.

The panel was chaired by Muhammad Hanafi Hj Zaini, while the panel itself was made up of Mohd Saifullah Hj Sahri from Kg Saba Prayer Hall, Abd Muiz Hj Amat from the Sultan Hj Hassanal Bolkiah Silver Jubilee Mosque of Kg Jangsak, Mohd Yusri Kadir from Perdana Wangsa Hj Mohammad Mosque of Kg Setia, and Mohd Ruzaini Hj Mohd Rozey from the Lambak Kanan National Housing Plan (RPN) Mosque.

The four youths on the panel yesterday were tasked with breaking down verses from Surah Ad-duha and explaining to those present their significance and meanings.

Seated as the panel and observed carefully, they performed well, speaking confidently and clearly bringing their points across, drawing examples from real life and quoting hadith as well.

The guest of honour at the forum was the Acting Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Othman.

Also in attendance were Pehin Dato Hj Dani Hj Ibrahim, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Dato Paduka Hj Abd Rahman Hj Mohiddin, Permanent Secretary and Dato Paduka Ustaz Hj Ishaaq Hj Abdullah, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Religious Affairs.
