Minister praises Laksamana College

Friday, March 14, 2008

LAKSAMANA College of Business (LCB) has been lauded for its contribution to Brunei's economy and prosperity through the production of degree-holders and well-educated students.

This corresponds with one of the major goals of Wawasan Brunei 2035 (Brunei's National Vision 2035), which envisions Brunei as being globally recognised for its "intelligent and highly-skilled young people."

The congratulatory call was made by the Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Adanan Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Hj Mohd Yusof on Tuesday during the college's fifth anniversary celebration at the Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong.

Starting off with only 22 students and three lecture rooms, LCB began its operations in 2003.

Five years on, LCB now boasts 143 students and several lecture rooms have undergone renovation.

The success of the college, as stated during the opening speech made by Ian Pirie, the director and principal of LCB and also Kensington College of Business, was primarily due to the availability of earning a British qualification but at a lower cost than studying for a degree in the United Kingdom (UK).

This is a direct result of the twinning degree programmes that the college offers, which see students study first in LCB before being sent abroad to the UK, depending on the results they have achieved from the college.

The evening progressed with several musical performances by LCB students and N.E.X.T.Z dancers.

A video presentation was also shown during the dinner, which highlighted the college's growth over the five years.

An expected 450 guests, comprising family members of Abdul Razak Holdings, teachers, students and alumni of LCB, were present for the anniversary dinner.
