Off to Australia, NZ to tap tourism market

Thursday, March 27, 2008

TWO officials from the Brunei Tourism Board are heading to the Sunday Mail's Escape Holiday and Snow Expo 2008 in Brisbane, Queensland, as part of its initiative to tap the Australian and New Zealand tourism markets.

Representatives from a local hotel and one travel agency are also participating in the travel expo, being held on March 29 and 30.

The Sabah and Sarawak tourism boards will coordinate with the Brunei tourism board to host a pavilion booth at the expo.

The three tourism boards will be promoting the Destination Borneo brand at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, the proposed venue of the Holiday and Snow Expo.

During the two-day exhibition, the three government agencies will compete against other travel and tourism agencies for their share of the potential Australian and New Zealand markets.

The centre will be divided into five areas which have been themed the Adventure, Australian, New Zealand, International and Snow-Go zones.

The zones have been named according to the market segments and traveller profiles they aim to attract.

The International zone hoped to "entice travellers who want something a little further a field", according to the expo website.

This weekend's expo would form one of the stops of Brunei Tourism's road show of Australia. In the evening, the tourism boards have been scheduled to meet between 60 and 100 agents to promote new attractions in Brunei.

The meeting will serve as an "educational process", said Pg Azmanishah Pg Hj Abd Rahman, the board's project supervisor who is covering the Australian and New Zealand markets.

RBA will also be showcasing some of their products to the Australian and New Zealand markets. The tourism board also planned to visit the cities of Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast on their road show.

The Sunday Mail's Escape Holiday and Snow Expo was expected to attract 200 travel agencies, tour operators and tourism boards setting up exhibits during the expo.
