Wednesday, April 2, 2008
THAI Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej will arrive in Brunei for a half-day goodwill visit this Saturday, as part of his introductory tour to Asean member countries since being sworn into office on February 6, 2008.
About 10 high ranking Thai officials were expected to accompany Samak, who was also scheduled to pay a courtesy call to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at Istana Nurul Iman.
Seventy-two-year-old Samak, who leads the People Power Party, was elected as the 25th Prime Minister of Thailand earlier this year.
He has already met his counterparts from Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Singapore and Indonesia.
Brunei and Thailand established diplomatic ties in 1983 which resulted in the fostering of strong ties in defence, education, information and broadcasting, as well as in the extremely important area of trade and investment.
