HIS MAJESTY the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Minister of Defence and the Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces yesterday consented to receive in audience the Commander of the United States Pacific Command (USPacom) Admiral Timothy J Keating at the Istana Nurul Iman.
Here on a two day official introductory visit, the Admiral aims to strengthen the friendly relations shared by the two countries and to extend the importance of defence cooperation between both countries as well as the respective armed forces.
Accompanying the commander of USPacom during the audience was the commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato Paduka Seri Hj Halbi Hj Md Yussof and the Ambassador of the United States of America to Brunei, His Excellency Emil Skodon.
Also present during the audience ceremony were Datin Paduka Hjh Salbiah Hj Sulaiman, permanent secretary at the Prime Minister's Office and Mohd Sahrip Othman, acting permanent secretary at the Ministry of Defence.
Meanwhile, His Majesty also granted an audience to Guo Shengkun, secretary of the Communist Party of China's Party of the Guangxi region (See Page 2). Guo, who is also the chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Guangxi region, is on a three-day visit to strengthen economic ties with Brunei.
