THEIR Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania of Jordan yesterday visited the Brunei Museum, accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Hjh Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah.

The visit was welcomed by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Hj Mohammad Hj Daud, who introduced the royal guests to the staff and director of the museum.

The tour began with a visit to the Sunken Treasures Display, where the guests were shown treasures that were discovered and excavated in and around Brunei waters.

The tour then went on to the Islamic Arts display where their majesties viewed artefacts that showcased Brunei's rich and deep Islamic heritage.

Brunei and Jordan have long enjoyed cordial relations. His Majesty King Abdullah II was in Brunei in February 2004 for talks on trade and investment between the two countries and in March 2006, King Abdullah II was in the country on a private visit.

Brunei and Jordan established diplomatic relations in 1984, where Brunei had its mission in Amman, the capital of Jordan.

The tour of the Museum yesterday ended with a visit to the Oil and Gas display, where Hj Zainal Abidin Hj Mohd Ali, deputy managing director of Brunei Shell Petroleum explained the finer details of the country's oil and gas production.

Brunei Museum was established in 1965, with its first administrative office at the Civic Centre in Bandar Brunei, now known as Bandar Seri Begawan.
