Jordanian King arrives on three-day visit

HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Isteri Azrinaz Mazhar Hakim Mazhar welcomed His Majesty the King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein and Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah, who arrived in the country for a three-day State Visit, at Istana Nurul Iman yesterday.

The visit by the Jordanian monarch is on the invitation of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

Upon arrival at the Istana Nurul Iman, His Majesty the Sultan, Her Majesty Raja Isteri, Her Royal Highness Pengiran Isteri and the Jordanian King and Queen proceeded to the Royal Dais to receive the Royal Salute while the national anthems of both countries played and flags hoisted.

Following the Royal Salute, His Majesty and the Jordan monarch proceeded to inspect the Guard of Honour, comprised of Royal Brunei Land Forces officers, after which the Jordan royalty were led to the palace reception hall where they were introduced to His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah along with other members of the royal family.

Cabinet ministers, diplomatic officers, legislative council members and other top government officials were among those present at the palace reception hall to receive His Majesty King Abdullah II and Her Majesty Queen Rania .

His Majesty was then introduced to the Jordan delegation by His Majesty King Abdullah II.

During the audience, both Brunei and Jordan monarchs held bilateral discussions on issues of common concern

In appreciation of the friendly ties between both countries, state decorations were also exchanged during the audience where His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam conferred His Majesty King Abdullah II the Royal Family Order of the Crown of Brunei, or Darjah Kerabat Mahkota Brunei (DKMB), which are only awarded to members of the royal families, either Bruneians or other royals.

Meanwhile, Her Majesty Queen Rania was conferred the Darjah Kerabat Laila Utama Yang Amat Dihormati (DK), or The Most Esteemed Family Order Laila Utama, which carries the title Datin Laila Utama, by His Majesty.

The Jordan monarch reciprocated by bestowing Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha the Bejewelled Grand Cordon of Renaissance while Her Royal Highness Pengiran Isteri Azrinaz Mazhar was bestowed the Order of the Renaissance (First Degree).

During their visit to the sultanate, the Jordanian royalties will be conducting several tours and visits to places of interest.

His Majesty King Abdullah II will be taking a trip to Temburong today to conduct a jungle warfare exercise.

This is the fourth visit to Brunei for the Jordanian monarch. His Majesty King Abdullah II's last visit to the country was in March 2006.

Brunei Darussalam and Jordan have maintained warm and cordial relations and established diplomatic relations after the sultanate gained independence in 1984.
