THEIR Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania of Jordan yesterday visited the State Mufti Office's Darul Ifta, which preserves Islamic and Jawi manuscripts.

Accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Hjh Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah, the royalties were welcomed by the State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Dr Ustaz Hj Awg Abdul Aziz Juned, who introduced the royal guests to the staff and senior officers of Darul Ifta.

The tour began with an introduction to the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Islamic Exhibition Hall by the Director of Administration, Dato Paduka Ahmad Bukhari PSRK Hj Abu Hanifah.

The Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Islamic Exhibition Gallery displays more than a thousand pieces of the collection of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, including 300 types of mushaf (book) of the hand-written al-Quran aged between 500 and 1,000 years, from various countries, as well as the Brunei mushaf.

The gallery was opened on August 18, 2001, in conjunction with the First International Islamic Expo.

This was followed by a visit to the special artefacts gallery and the Mushaf gallery, which houses the personal collection of Mushaf Al-Quran and Kitabs of His Majesty.

The tour then advanced to the exhibition floor at the first floor which features the walking sticks gallery, the prayer beads gallery, and the manuscripts gallery.

The gallery houses about 150 types of walking sticks and more than 50 kinds of prayer beads from personal collections and those that were received as gifts.

Also present during the visit by their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania were the deputy mufti, administration director and senior officers of the State Mufti's Office. (SRH1)
