Bank contest to open

Saturday, May 17, 2008

THE wait is over for local thrill-seekers with the announcement that HSBC is holding the second season of its Tri Xtreme Challenge later this year, following the success of the first season last year.

Open to citizens and permanent residents of Brunei Darussalam aged between 18 and 30, the Tri Xtreme Challenge aims to "promote Xcitement within the community", according to Tareq Muhmood, the chief executive officer of HSBC Brunei.

He also said that the competition is focused on the particular segment market (18-to-30 year-olds) to prove that HSBC is part of the community and to remove the perception that the bank is old-fashioned.

Muhmood also mentioned that the Tri Xtreme Challenge is "uniquely Bruneian" with a format that has not been seen in other HSBC markets around the world.

"There is great energy behind this (competition) internally," he said. When the bank requested for volunteers to help take part in organising various aspects of the event, there was an immediate rush of e-mails pledging participation in organising the competition.

Full of physical and mental challenges, the exact details of what participants will face in the competition will remain undisclosed until the teams have successfully completed the full registration, which is due to take place at the first floor of the Hua Ho Manggis Mall on June 15, 2008. Participation is limited to the first 100 teams to apply.

Early birds need to pre-register through the bank's website, www.hsbc.com.bn, where they will be given a confirmation number upon successful pre-registration. The pre-registration will be open from today until June 11, 2008. The teams have to meet several requirements to be eligible for entry into the Tri Xtreme Challenge. Both HSBC and non-HSBC customers are allowed to participate, but they are required to pay a registration fee of $10 and $20 respectively.

Additional information regarding the competition and its terms and conditions can be found on the bank's website.

The first stage of the challenge, the 'Xtreme Pursuit' will take place on June 22. The 100 teams which have successfully registered will battle it out to make it as one of the 40 teams to move on onto the next stage.

Stage Two, the 'Xtreme Adventure', to be held on June 29, will sift through the 40 teams, narrowing it down to the top 10 teams. 'Going to the Xtreme', the final stage on July 6 will see the three best teams challenging each other to be the champion of the competition. The grand prize will include $8,000 and a 16 gigabyte Ipod Touch and other gifts. First- and second-runner ups will get cash prizes of $4,000 and $2,000 respectively. (ODM1) The Brunei Times
