HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam left India yesterday, following a successful four-day state visit to India.
Before leaving India, His Majesty flew to Bangalore in India's Karnataka state, where he visited the Parachute Regiment Training Centre, the Indian Space Research Organisation before ending the visit with a luncheon with the Governor of Karnataka.
At the Parachute Regiment Training Centre, His Majesty dressed in combat fatigues, had the opportunity to overlook the premier institutions of the Indian Army.
His Majesty was briefed about the institution by Officiating Commandant Col SS Sangwan, before being led to see demonstrations of the training carried out at the training centre. This included Counter Insurgency manoeuvres and "Slithering" Operations which have become a hallmark of the Indian Special Forces.
The monarch also had the opportunity to observe live firing exercises during the visit.
The training centre in Bangalore is responsible for recruit training and selection cum basic skills training for the personnel joining the Parachute Regiment, which is considered the "Elite" regiment of the Indian Army.
The regiment comprises the Parachute and Parachute Special Forces Battalions. The battalions have a tried and tested record after performing in conventional wars as well as ongoing Counter Terrorism operations in India.
Following on from there His Majesty went to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), where the Brunei Monarch was shown the capabilities of the facility. The ISRO was established to develop space technology and its application to various national tasks. Since 1972, India has established two major space systems, Insat for communication, television broadcasting and meteorological services, and Indian Remote Sensing Satellites (IRS) system for resources monitoring and management. His Majesty was presented with High Quality Satellite Imagery of Brunei Darussalam as a memento before leaving the Indian Space Research Facility.
The last stop in Bangalore for His Majesty was the Raj Bhavan, the residence of the Governor of Karnataka. Whilst there, His Majesty consented to have an audience with the Governor of Karnataka. The working monarch also took the time to meet several senior state officials before attending a luncheon held in his honour, after which he departed for Bangalore International Airport.
