No visa for Bruneians visiting China
Monday, May 26, 2008
THOSE interested in visiting China during the Beijing Olympics should have all their documents in proper order and make sure that they meet the requirements of the Chinese government. This includes having a confirmed air ticket and advanced accommodation bookings.
Zhang Yi Jun, the director of the consular section of the embassy of the People's Republic of China in Brunei Darussalam said that Bruneian visa requirements for entry into China remain unchanged for the Olympics season, since the Chinese government had unilaterally decided that a Bruneian citizen should be exempted from visa for business, tourism, visits and transits in July 2003. The visa policy has been slightly changed to accommodate foreigners interested in visiting the country during the Beijing Olympics. Application for an entry visa have been adjusted according the procedures of other countries hosting previous Olympiad and other international sporting events and in accordance with Chinese laws and regulations, said the director.
He added that compared to most countries in the world, the application for the Chinese visa is always convenient and foreigners' normal entry and attendance to the Olympiad will remain unaffected.
He reminded those interested in visiting China to make sure to have a valid visa before entering the country (except for those from visa-exempted countries) to ensure smooth entry. Entry visas can be obtained at the Chinese Embassy.
For any third-country passport holder, a valid resident permit or a valid employment pass of Brunei is required and non-Bruneian residents should apply for the Chinese visa in his or her resident country.
Other details such as hotel-booking forms in China and return air tickets should also be taken care of in advance to avoid any difficulties. Documents that will be requested by the consular officer will include bank statements, employment certificates and so on, he added.
Visitors' passports should be valid for at least six months with blank visa pages and they must enter and exit through the Chinese ports open to all international travellers. The Brunei Times
