STATE-broadcaster Radio Television Brunei (RTB) staff had a pleasant surprise when His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam came by without announcement to visit its new building near the Sungai Akar dumpsite and its headquarters in the capital yesterday.
RTB's technical team and a part of its editing section for television programmes were scheduled to move in to its new branch in August this year, according to an RTB official.
Upon arrival at the headquarters, His Majesty was ushered by the acting deputy director of RTB, Hj Hamidon Hj Ibrahim, to the Administrative Section.
The monarch was then taken to the radio section, where he took the opportunity to get his blood pressure checked during an ongoing health screening for RTB staff.
After a thorough look at radio studios for popular local stations such as Pelangi and Pilihan FM as well as the main control room for the radio section, the monarch was ushered to the engineering unit.
The monarch then walked next door to the television complex, where the audio visual library and archives came under close scrutiny.
Following a visit to the television complex's two main studios, His Majesty walked over to the Corporate Relations Division prior to inspecting the complex's Main Control Room.
On the upper floor, His Majesty was then shown the News Centre, the Current Affairs and Graphics Section, as well as RTB's Dewan Raya.
A meeting ensued behind closed doors of the Iltizam Room, where the Minister of Development, Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Abdullah Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar, made a last minute appearance to join the monarch.
Yesterday's visit marks His Majesty's second to the government media agency since 2001. (HHM1)
