Be thankful for Brunei's peace and prosperity

Saturday, June 7, 2008

IMAMS yesterday called on the Muslim community to be thankful to Allah SWT for Brunei's peace and independence and paid tribute to the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) for defending the sultanate's sovereignty.

"In countries in turmoil, its citizens live in hardship, fear and anxiety. We can see the suffering faced by war victims, who live in fear and with lack of food. There are those who suffer more in their lives as a result of injuries, and have lost limbs or other body parts," imams said in the Friday sermons nationwide.

"Even more saddening is the many lives lost because of war children losing their parents, parents losing their children. The economy of a war-ravaged nation will stay stagnant, its development stopped in its tracks. In the end, these cause problems and complications that will inevitably be shouldered by the citizens themselves."

Mosque-goers were reminded that as citizens and inhabitants of this country that they, besides the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, are also responsible for defending and upholding the country's peace.

The imams called on Brunei's soldiers to be genuine in their intentions when carrying out duties, saying that it is precisely what keeps the spirit of struggle going.

"An Armed Force that conducts its duties with trust and full of determination is admired and respected. Because of them our country is safe from enemy threats. They would not carry out duties half-heartedly knowing that the consequences of carelessness and negligence will endanger the safety of our citizens and open up opportunities for enemies to invade the country," the imams said. "It will also make the soldier more courageous and unafraid to face the enemy. These are the traits found in many Muslim warriors during the era of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)."

A competent and wise leadership as well as thorough supervision are also necessary.

"There is no use having a big number of troops, knowing how to fight, skilled in using weapons and knowing how to lay out strategies when there is no understanding and unity. It is not impossible for disintegration to rise out of these issues, which in turn will bring about weaknesses and destruction. Hence the saying: United we stand, divided we fall."
