Promoting local writers

THE Titian Puisi, a forum for local writers, can provide a platform for local authors and literature enthusiasts to share their ideas and work.
This was said by Ampuan Dr Hj Ibrahim Ampuan Hj Tengah, the Head II of Asterawani (Brunei Darussalam Association of Writers) at the forum last night.
He added, "The involvement of elite writers in the association helps to promote Brunei's literature to the international arena."
The second Titian Puisi organised by Asterawani was held at the official residence of Pehin Jawatan Luar Pekerma Raja Dato Seri Utama Dr Ustaz Hj Md Zain Hj Serudin, Minister of Religious Affairs.
Among those present were Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Hj Mohammad Hj Daud, minister of culture, youth and sports, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Othman, deputy minister of Religious Affairs, prominent writers and local literature enthusiasts.
The objective of the project is to encourage the flourishing of literature in Brunei while gathering writers and literary enthusiasts in intellectual activities.
Pehin Dato Dr Ustaz Hj Md Zain is himself a writer under the pen name of Shukri Zain.
Some of the minister's published work include Puisi Hidayat, Sumbangsih Shukri Zain and Bunga Rampai Melayu Brunei.
Last night's event saw a number of recitation on various literature works in the form of puisi (poems) - and syair. The Titian Puisi project was established on April 11, 2008. Asterawani's members consist of local writers and scholars, members of the Language and Literature Bureau, the Universiti Brunei Darussalam Rakis group and similar organisations.The Brunei Times
