Ford 4x4 vehicles set for adventure to Labuan
Tuesday, June 24, 2008
ROUGH terrain is where advanced automobile engineering will come face to face with mother Earth, as the Ford 4x4 Offroad Adventure to Labuan takes off this Friday, June 27. Living up to its slogan, "Built Tough", Ford's 4x4 vehicles will be pushed and tested by their owners on the expedition.
According to Adeline Ng, the marketing executive of Premier Automobiles Sdn Bhd, the local Ford agent organised the expedition as a loyalty programme to their customers. They conducted these offroad excursions around three times a year.
Previously, the company coordinated with the Lanun Darat, a 4x4 vehicle team from Malaysia, to bring Bruneian Ford owners on expeditions throughout Malaysia.
The marketing executive said that the trip would provide the Ford owners with the opportunity to test out the car's capabilities not just on the road, but also on rough terrain like muddy areas.
"We want them (Ford 4x4 owners) to be confident with the vehicles, especially (those who own) the new (Ford) Ranger," she told The Brunei Times.
She also mentioned that three company vehicles, which have been modified for optimum use on offroad conditions, will also be joining the expedition.
Teng Che How, the sales manager from Premier Automobiles Sdn Bhd will be leading the group as the "sweeper" in one of the company cars.
The "offroad adventure" also included camping, where the participants will enjoy a barbecue dinner by the beach-side.
The group would also be given a tour once in Labuan of the bird park, marina and a historical area by the Labuan Police Department.
A Bruneian motorcycle team, the Scooter Group, would meet up with the Ford vehicles during the tour.
Another highlight of the expedition was the Labuan 4WD (four-wheel-drive) show, where a group of all-terrain vehicles will show the Ford owners how to navigate an off-road track.
The Ford owners will also have the opportunity to try the track out for themselves, either with their own vehicles or one of the company cars, if they wished to do so.
The expedition will make their way back to Brunei by June 29, 2008. On the last update, a total of thirteen cars have signed up for the offroad adventure.
The registration for the expedition was closed yesterday.
To take part in the expedition participants need to pay a $50 registration fee, which was inclusive of one driver and three passengers in one 4x4 Ford car. Some meals were covered by the registration fee during the trip, but the participants were advised to bring light snacks, water and other necessities for the expedition.
A dinner would be held tomorrow where the participants would be briefed on the expedition. (ODM1)
