Over 70 nations for S'pore meet

SINGAPORE is putting a spotlight on sustainable development this week as it hosts three international conferences on the topic simultaneously over the next few days.
The joint summits — the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW), the World Cities Summit (WCS) and the East Asia Summit Conference on Liveable Cities — are estimated to draw about 5,000 government officials, policy makers, city planners, experts, practitioners and academics from more than 70 countries.
Brunei is also represented, with Deputy Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Dato Paduka Hj Hamdillah Hj Abd Wahab speaking as a panelist during a plenary session titled "Sustainable Development: The Way Forward".
Other listed Bruneian delegates include Home Affairs Minister Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato seri Setia Hj Adanan Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Hj Mohd Yusof , chairmen of municipal boards, the commissioner of town and country planning.
The opening ceremony today will be officiated by the city-state's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who will present a keynote address on the challenges of sustainable development in cities.
